The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

What's up, DeviantART, Ninja Mongoose here with a very, very special challenge for all of you interested in creating your own original characters.

Sometimes, I sit around and think of concepts for characters.  Inspiration can come from a myriad of sources, you know.  But for those of you interested in my little challenge, it's coming from your's truly.  Introducing...

NINJA MONGOOSE'S GREAT 100 CHARACTER CHALLENGE OF UNBELIEVABLE ANGER!!!

The Rules (very important!):
1. In order to participate, you must let me know first.  Simply leave a comment saying "Challenge Accepted," and you're officially entered.
2. You must create exactly 100 original characters, each based off of a single one of the one-word concepts listed below.  There are 150 concepts, so if there is one that you're stumped with, just ignore it and choose another.  You do not need to complete them in any order.
3. You may not enter characters that you created prior to the contest.
4. You may not, under any circumstance, enter liscenced characters or a character you did not create.
5. This character may exist within a canon universe, but may also be in a completely original setting.
6. You must write a profile for the character and post it on your page.  Images are optional, but description is required.  See the profile requirements for more details.
7. You must altert me to these entries.  I will not seek them out if I am not subscribed to your artwork, and even then you must let me know that something is, in fact, entered in the contest.
8. You must say which concept the character is based off of.  No duplicates.  You must also explain how he/she/it is related to the concept.
9. There is no definite deadline, so take your time, however there will be a time when I will no longer accept formal entries to the contest.
10. You do not need to keep your characters, but you may keep certain ones or all of them if you want to.
